At TEDx University of Nevada, we believe in supporting innovative companies, and we’re thankful for the innovative companies that support us. AT&T is one of the first companies to sponsor TEDx University of Nevada and they’ve been with us since year one.
This week, we interviewed Randy Brown, AT&T’s Director of External and Regulatory Affairs, to learn more about AT&T’s leadership in our Northern Nevada community.
Randy is a native Nevadan and a first-generation college graduate from the University of Nevada. He spent the last 20 years as an executive at AT&T, holding leadership roles in accounting, tax, regulatory, government relations and external affairs. Randy is licensed to practice as a CPA in Nevada.
AT&T connects people with their world everywhere they live, work and play
Randy shared why he’s proud to work at AT&T and how their mission is to connect people across the globe. “AT&T is a wildly innovative company with more than 260,000 employees worldwide. Our teams receive an average of more than five patents every day. Our network covers 99 percent of Americans.”
“Our mission is to connect people with their world everywhere they live, work and play – and do it better than anyone else. At AT&T, we’re bringing it all together. We deliver advanced mobile services, next-generation TV, high-speed internet and smart solutions for people and businesses. That’s why we’re investing to be a global leader in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications industry.”
AT&T’s innovative work in public safety through FirstNet
AT&T utilizes their leading role in communications to improve public safety in Nevada. Randy discussed why this project is important to him.
“In Nevada, we’re proud of our work in supporting First Responders. The First Responder Network Authority and AT&T have contracted to deliver a reliable and innovative solution to our nation’s first responders that gives them the ability to interoperate across jurisdictions.”
“Together, we will unlock innovation and an ecosystem to fully support next generation tools that will help save lives. FirstNet is a solution exclusively for public safety that will provide so much more than just the ability to make and receive calls and access data. FirstNet is designed by public safety for public safety.”
AT&T supports big ideas worth spreading through TEDx University of Nevada
When companies like AT&T sponsor TEDx University of Nevada, we invite them to be a part of the audience. Randy highlighted impactful speakers that he’s seen live at our annual events.
“I’ve been amazed by TEDx speakers since the inception of TEDx University of Nevada, particularly, talks on very difficult topics like suicide by Bridget Park and childhood sexual assault by Jill Tolles.”
“I was moved by Juan V. Lopez’s account of embracing his stutter – going from being terrified to ordering at a fast food restaurant to becoming a successful entrepreneur and motivational speaker.”
“I was inspired by the dedication of Racquel Abowd who worked during summer break to ensure a student in her classroom advanced to the next grade. I’ve also been entertained by some truly amazing artists like Tim Snider, The Notables, The Warning, JamPro Music and Cam.”
AT&T connects people around the world daily. Randy discussed how TEDx University of Nevada is another way for them to advance that goal.
“As a company, we believe in the spirit of compassion and leadership that drives innovation in the communities in which we live and work. That’s what TEDx does for not only our community but to many others as the stories are shared worldwide.”
“We value and appreciate members of our community and seek ways to be a positive partner. I’m delighted with our partnership with TEDx University of Nevada. Besides, who couldn’t use to hear a big idea worth spreading every once in a while?”
